Man gets 881 pound tuna seized
A Massachusetts fisherman Pulled in an 881 pound tuna. We should all congratulate Carlos Rafael, I would sure love to see it. Wait, where it go? That’s right, he don’t have that tuna anymore. Why you may ask? It belongs to the U.S government.
After Carlos went to meet with one of his boats that caught the fish, a government official was there to take his prize fish. Carlos always bought all the permits he needed in preparation for this day, problem is it was caught with a net and not a pole. So since it was caught with a net, Carlos was in violation of law.
Couple years ago a 754 pound tuna sold for $396,000. The authorities took the fish and said he should feel lucky he wasn’t fined. The authorities sold the fish for $5,000.
There is a hearing scheduled and if he is found guilty the money goes into a trust fund. Is this proof the government has a wee bit to much control? You buy permits thinking you are doing the right thing and this happens. To make it worse they sell a possible half a million dollar fish for a measly 5 grand.
Even if he wins the case what did he win? Besides, whats the possibility Carlos will beat the government at it’s own game? I would be willing to bet pretty slim. Isn’t it funny, with all the economic problems we have the government takes a half million dollar fish and sells it for 5 grand, and we have to wonder why we are broke?
Grats on the catch Carlos! To bad your being screwed by a greedy body of endless greed. Next time have a heavy duty pole on board and no matter how caught use the pole. Screw onto others as they screw onto you, sounds good to me!
